I am having the exact same problem with users using a CAC. The logs I had attached in the previous note are both for working and non-working events with the Enhanced Logging for Smart Card.
Wednesday, April wibdows, 6: We are able to pre-session authenticate with the card, but once in the Windows session the PCoIP Smartcard agent appears to be crashing the local smart card service and the card is then unreadable.
It’s unusual that authentication sometimes work and other times not. We are able to use our smart cards window authenticate to the view session, but once we are in the session the card is no longer usable. Did you check the KB and confirm that you are using supported version of smart card, smart card reader, middleware, etc?

We had few customers who had similar issue and if they would disable UEM Agent smart card would be properly presented in Windows.

What I mean by no longer usable is if say we needed to elevate the command prompt, we would right click the command prompt and select run as Administrator, a popup would then prompt for credentials.
VMware was helping those customers out and UEM is their product and I think they provided them some changes in Windows registry.
